Sea kayaking desktop wallpaper calendar 2012 July

The Great Cave of Boreray, St Kilda Archipelago.

The 8th annual sea kayaking desktop wallpaper calendar is available from seakayakphoto.com. The above link will lead to high resolution photos in four different desktop sizes.

Liz Willis paddles out of the cave, as Simon Willis films from the bow of MV Cuma, during the filming for Sea kayak with Gordon Brown Volume 2. In the middle distance, Stac Lee rises straight from the sea. The gap between Hirta and Soay (from which we had paddled) is on the horizon.

  3. Mike, thank you. Since I have retired I have been doing physiotherapy exercises 5 times per week and walking every day. At first it was awful I was falling several times a week as my left knee dislocated. However I have now built up my quads to the extent that my knee hasn't dislocated for the last three weeks. I am hopeful that regular exercise will make another operation (like the one on my right knee) unnecessary.

Graham thank you. If you look it is not quite the same photo. Simon chose the frame before it for the DVD cover. In it Liz was much closer and I had focused on her. In this one I focussed on the MV Cuma which I think gives a more pleasing depth of field.

  4. I was just about to write; "Oh yea, you're right.." when I thought, 'Oh course he's right, ya chube.. Douglas knows about these things.'
The depth of field is perfect for the boat, the rock and the birds.. Maybe someday... someday??.. I am swithering about taking my DSLR (Canon 1D mk2) with the 70-200 f2.8 out with me in the summer and a right good wide angle.. I'll be looking at quality deck bags right enough.
I'll have a look at your reviews. Cheers and have we done the happy new year biz?.. anyway. aw ra best etc.

  5. Douglas, 'Maybe someday' I shall be able to get close to the images you have captured and I have noticed it's the Ortlieb Aquazoom bag you use to protect your DSLRs especially with the 70-200mm lens I hope to take with me this summer.
Did the lady from 'Overboard' ever get back to you to let you know about their fairly inexpensive 3ltr roll top bag that unfortunately leaked in your tests? to see whether or not the leaks can be stopped or prevented?
    All the best

    Graham

  6. Thank you Graham, the Ortlieb Aquazoom bag is very good. Mine has survived a capsize and being abandoned on a capsized kayak on the beach, which the surf filled with sand and water. Despite this, the camera remained dry as a bone. The Overboard people did not get back to me.
