Yes it's a shiny new P&H Cetus MV. I am lucky enough to have this on long term loan from P&H, so hopefully I will be able to give some good feedback and reviews. I have previously had long term loans of P&H, Valley, Seakayaks UK, Rockpool and Point 65 sea kayaks, so I hope any future reports will continue to be as impartial as possible.

  1. Douglas, What's that in the front of the cockpit? A special footrest to help with your knee problems?

  5. I notice that there are no footrest-rail bolts through the hull, and you have a bulkhead shaped piece of minicell sitting in the cockpit. What are your plans? Is the fore bulkhead reinforced?

  6. Stewart I ordered it with a reinforced bulkhead to suit my legs, it comes with a bulkhead shaped foam which would mean you could sell it on to someone with shorter legs, in my case I can think of at least seven people, all friends of Miss S. White.

John, as you might see from the Dunure trip, this is one hell of a kayak. It shows none of the tendency to broach in following seas that the first generation Cetus displays, I love it!

Mike I usually go for a white deck but I borrowed an orange deck Cetus LV and I thought it looked great in typical grey Scottish days!

Graham, yes there is a list already, the seven little fellas mentioned above!

John, yes it's a reinforced bulkhead, I didn't need the big block of minicell, just 2cm of minicell for the toes.

  7. re: broaching
Which older Cetus are you referring to? Full size?

I own an LV, and have an MV on order. In my experience, the LV and MV behave similarly, more well-behaved than full size boat. They still tend to broach a bit in rear-quartering seas. I'm still searching for the perfect boat.

  8. Hello John F, I was referring to the first generation of the full size Cetus. This one I found broached much more easily than a Quest in the same conditions, especially if it was loaded with a bit much weight in the front compartment.

I paddled a Cetus LV over the course of a winter, I was a bit heavy for it even on a day paddle, as when edged, the keel did not fully disengage from the water. However, I did not notice easy broaching being a particular problem with the Cetus LV.

As far as the Cetus MV is concerned, at 90kg, I have not yet noticed undue broaching when unloaded. So far I have used it with and without a sail and used it in conditions up to force 5 with up to 2m closely spaced waves. I will be using the Cetus MV over the winter and will report my impressions in the spring. So far, for my weight, I have found it to be another step forward in the quest for perfection. I like it a lot!
